Johnny Depp plays Frank, a mild-mannered American who’s on vacation in Venice, Italy, recovering from a hurtful break up.  He meets the beautiful Elise (Angelina Jolie) and a romance develops.  However, their meeting is no accident.  She is really on the run from the police and the Russian mafia, and has used Frank as a decoy.
