Yesterday’s Enemy (1959, U.K.)

Set in WWII during the Japanese invasion of Burma.  After Captain Langford and his men capture enemy territory, he ignores the protests of bystanders and orders the execution of innocent villagers to persuade an informer to talk. However, these harsh methods backfire.  When the Japanese retake the village, they too resort to senseless murders in their effort to get his cooperation.
