Soul Surfer (2011, U.S.A.)

Inspirational drama based on the autobiography of Bethany Hamilton.  She was a teenage surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack at the age of 13.  Hamilton then went on to overcome all the odds and become a surfing champion.

While surfing with friend Alana and her family, Bethany is attacked by a tiger shark, and loses her left arm and lots of blood. Lucky to survive, Bethany continues to surf but quits after a poor performance. However she travels to Thailand to help the victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami.  She’s then motivated to get back in the water.

The cast also features Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt and Carrie Underwood.
