Rare WWII film starring James Stewart as an Army Major stationed in East China, and instructed to destroy bridges and other access for the advancing Japanese.   This is Stewart’s only role in a war film, as he believed that the script – based on a journalist’s real experiences – was an authentic representation.

Widely considered an anti-war film in contrast to movies that came before it, it nonetheless was made with the co-operation of the Pentagon.
