Sense And Sensibility (1995, U.K./U.S.A)

Emma Thompson starred in and wrote the screenplay for this adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel. Thompson plays Elinor, the eldest of sisters.  When their father dies, his estate passes on to his son from his first marriage.  Therefore the sisters have no money, and therefore reduced prospects of marriage.  However, their new society soon accepts them.  So they each find romance, but with some pain along the way.

Also stars Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman, the film won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as three BAFTAs.
