True Believer (1989, U.S.A.)

This is a fascinating mystery in which a murder case becomes a deadly quest for a washed up lawyer and his protégé.

Eddie Dodd’s work for civil rights in the 1960s and 70s made him one of the country’s most respected attorneys.  However, a decade later sees him burnt out and cynical and reduced to defending drug dealers.  Robert Downey, Jr. stars as an young, idealistic law graduate who goes to work for his idol, Dodd.  He persuades Dodd to take on a case which will become an obsession and a turning point in his career.
